VI 4 c. 1840 Father Theobold Mathew, a prominent temperance advocate who visited Woonsocket depot and St. Charles parish in October 1849. He led sobriety pledges of over 1,000 men and women at the Church, which was at the time the largest public building in the city, according to the Woonsocket Patriot.
